STLAG Spring Break Camps 2025

Painting for Young Artists (ages 10-13)

March 17 - 21, 2025

In this spring break camp, Young Artists will paint with a variety of materials! They will use acrylic, and watercolor to explore different techniques. Students will learn about color mixing and color theory, as well as how to use these different paints to create unique works of art! With watercolor, students will try various layering, masking, and wash techniques. We will develop your understanding of form and color that are universal to art applications in any medium by working from observation. Through both student-led experimentation and demonstrations, young artists will gain confidence in expressing their creative visions and painting from life or photographs.This is a fast-paced class intended for beginner and intermediate-level artists, each day will be a little different, demonstrations and individual instruction will accommodate all skill levels. A basic understanding of drawing is helpful but not required.

All materials are included in the cost of the camp. Students must bring lunch.

Digital Illustration for Young Artists (ages 10-13)

March 17 - 21, 2025

(10am - 2pm)

Instructor: Kenya Mitchell

In this spring break camp, Young Artists will learn the basics of the drawing program Procreate, using an iPad and an Apple Pencil to create digital illustrations. We'll explore how to use different color palettes, backgrounds, brushes and textures, as well as layers to recreate and reimagine their favorite books. We will look at different books in person to get a feel of the flow and design,  drawing inspiration from their stories. Students will illustrate characters and scenes inspired by these stories and bring something of their own to it! Friday we will show off our digital artwork in the form of a book or a zine, and share them with family and friends! 

All materials are included in the cost of the camp, but students are encouraged to bring a book or two that inspire them!

Students must bring lunch. (You do not need to bring an iPad or Apple Pencil, one will be provided for students to use during the camp.)
